Study shows mothers know best when they are talking about teenage boys eating habits

While most moms will say that teenage boys will consume everything that is put in front of them. A new study done by Dr. Jack A. Yanovski, of the U.S. National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, has shown it to be somewhat true. No objective study has been previously done to prove this out.

In a buffet experiment involving 200 boys and girls between the ages of 8-17. The boys tended to eat more than their female counterparts. “There’s a lot of folk wisdom that says boys can eat prodigious amounts, but we haven’t had much data,” Yanovski told Reuters Health. To test out the theory the kids were invited to eat on two separate occasions.

On the first day the children were told to eat what they normally would. On the second day the pre-teens and teenagers were told to eat all they wanted. The boys showed that they ate more that the girls at each stage of their development.

The girls in the study ate more during the early stage in accordance with their natural growth spurt. The older boys, those who are 14-17 tended to eat even more than the girls at the same age according to the study. The study also suggested that parents watch for signs of overeating during this period as it may form into overeating as an adult.

Thus mothers of boys can now say, that is with science behind them that, that teenage boys will eat you out of house and home.
