Certified Financial Planners Continue To Guide The Financially Challenged

by FEMax on July 21, 2010

A Certified Financial Planner can guide you even in a rough economy.

A Certified Financial Planner or CFP can help people who find that controlling their finances even in the best of times can be tricky. Our educational system seems to frown upon the study of something as basic as personal budgeting. Despite the economic downturn, The use of CFPs has remained unchanged according to a study down by the Certified Financial Planners Board (CFPB).

The organization, which also grants certification, commissioned a study for its 25th Anniversary. It showed that  despite the recession, the use of a financial planner remained unchanged at 29 percent. No doubt exists that learning about personal finance is boring and for some people somewhat scary. However, learning about budgeting and how to control personal finances would seem to be the right thing to do.

Once the dragon or the fear of  controlling  spending has been slayed, it would seem personally empowering as well. The use of a financial planner can seem to be intimidating at first, but this is your money and your future may be at stake. The first step in this process would be to talk to a few financial planners. Ask them about their background, experience, and their references.

Do they work on a fee basis(they should) or commission? Get in touch with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to find out if the person you are interested in is certified. Ask the CFPB 888-CFP-MARK, for information on the current status of the license and whether there has been any disciplinary action taken on the individual in the past.

Hiring a CFP is am important choice, much like choosing a doctor or an auto mechanic. CFPs are there for you to improve your financial situation. A Certified Financial Planner is there to help guide you when times are financially good or when you find yourself having financial difficulties.
